The "white" is aluminum. Photos show the O-4s had graphite smokeboxes when on the FW&D in 1956. When they came up to Denver to the C&S in 1957, all were painted aluminum except the 805 (5506), which

Sorry, I did not read your post carefully. Only photos 1957 and later (C&S) would be aluminum. Older photos that appear white are probably just the result of films at the time, or perhaps yellow came
