What was involved in converting the auto boxes to regular boxcars? Were there any external differences when the cars were renumbered, or was it similar to some earlier renumberings where just the lea

Tom, The auto loader was removed from the interior, the auxuilary (left) door was sealed and they were renumbered. As far as I know the only exterior difference would be the renumbering. The Accurail

Tom In most cases, the second door was permanently closed by welding two bars from the outside frame of the car to the door edge. Some were renumbered (such as the XA-16's) by painting out the first
