The interesting thing about this picture and the one following is the ratty condition of the Empire Builder's paint job, particularly on the lead dome.  It does look like something out of the late 60

Upon further review, you can see 4 Great Northern cars. Starting May 11th 1967 the GN started painted passenger cars in the "Big Sky Blue" paint scheme. This did take a long time and I don't think al

Gerald - are you sure? I thought it was more than one. One set also got painted into the new Cascade Green scheme toward the very end. nly 1 EPB trainset was painted Big Sky Blue; i.e. most remained

The other photos from mid 60's show red strips on the nose.  If the red had faded by '68 the black stripes would sort of be there with red also showing.   The '68 photo does not show fading paint.
