It occurred to me rather late in the day - I should have explained some more and not been so short. Yahoo has a setting for marketing preferences - it's typically defaults to opting in to everything.

Suggestions appreciated.? Knew about marketing preferences, which Yahoo reset randomly at least once after I unchecked all of them the last time I signed up.? Will also try the AOL fix you mentioned.
