Dave, I'm speculating, but since the "Coloradoan" carried the same number between Chicago and Denver, using 19 and 6 would be less confusion for passenger agents and ticket clerks writing tickets and

Dave No operating TT would ever show two trains on the same schedule...That would have been a big time no no and would not ever have happened. How the number of the train to be shown was arrived at I

David, Two trains can not operate on the same schedule. The logic behind which number to use is not too difficult. Using the "thru" schedule for the entire distance is simpler and less confusing. ,

Amtrak once had a separate column in its timetable for the Denver Zephyr after the San Francisco Zephyr became daily. The DZ's were listed as trains 55 and 56, but those numbers were never recognized
