I just painted three (3) Kato 70-ton ACF covered hoppers into MOW orange for sand service. Now the tricky question: What color were the roofs? Mike Spoor's Color Guide book looks like they were black

Unless you get more info I would go with orange, I have one slide of them, car #212923 shot in 1980. It does not show the roof however the sides of the hatches are orange, the edge of the hatch cover

Looking at the photo of #212929, on page 120 of Mike Spoor's Color Guide, the sides are orange, but it looks to me like the roof and underbody could be the original mineral red. If so, it might make
