Re: [CBQ] CB&Q SM-12 Stock Car

SM-12 stockcars 67000-68899 and 66800-66943 were built at Aurora, Illinois between 1912 and 1919, this particular car having been built in 1913. The last ORER record I have for this class is 1940.

The cars were constructed primarily of recycled material recovered from boxcars being scrapped, as were the cars in the previous SM-11 class 50360-50609, but with steel center sills. These are included in an article entitled “Parsimonious” in Bulletin 59.

CB&Q 68126, clipped from the January 1928 "Railway Purchases and Stores".

My Notes:

American Railway Association Class SM: This car is for transportation of stock on the hoof, and is equipped with roof, slatted sides and side doors, and single deck. With or without feed and water troughs.

From Series 66800-68899 per the May 1925 Equipment Register.

1,871 cars from this series were in service per the April 1917 Equipment Register.

1,767 cars from this series were in service per the May 1925 Equipment Register.

427 cars from this series were in service per the July 1935 Equipment Register.

I found no listing for this series in the January 1945 Equipment Register.
