As many of you likely know, the Rapido Budd commuter cars are in. As are the BN E's.
I am pleased to note that Rapido corrected the major mistakes noted on the original offering of the BN 3-car sets. The (model) 802 was produced without the nameboard. And the one non-toilet car was replaced with a toilet one (with different number, of course). Customers should be very pleased about that.
All in all, I like the train a lot (One E pulling the two three car sets). Wish it weren't so pink, but I can live with that. I hope.
Not mentioned in any Rapido sales documents (that I can remember), but the cab cars come with a speaker and a 21 pin plug for a decoder. I DO like sounds to come from the proper place, so it's my intention to install same.
Which leads to a couple of questions:
What horns were used on the E's and on the cab cars? I can see on the E that there's a single horn and a paired horn. I assume they were "played" separately.
And for the bell(s): What kind of bell was on the E's? What kind was on the cab cars? Maybe electronic????
Only other mod I have in mind is to replace the couplers with Sergents. That should close the spacing between cars up a bit. As it is, it's quite presentable, though to me it appears maybe 6-10 scale inches too much. Rapido DOES include longer shank couplers--very thoughtful.
Rapido also includes what I take to be inter-car MU and power cables, in a little bag. No directions at all. But I figure a person could figure it out. For myself, I intend to leave them off, as I am Free-mo, and don't have a permanent layout where they can be setup as a "unit train" for long periods.
If possible, please let me know about the horn and bell sounds--I'd like the sound to be as correct as possible. Oh, yeah. The E does come with the generator sound, over on F15--there are 28 functions listed.
And another "Oh, yeah": To me, the car lighting looks GREAT. My other Rapido passenger train is made up of their New Haven cars, and the lights are obnoxiously bright. These look MUCH better. To me.
