Burlington Bulletin NO. 35 has all the answers to you coal questions re the CB&Q. It's a massive publication of facts, figures, photos and funny stories (254 pages) and is probably the best researched publication of the CB&Q coal activities in Southern Illinois. It is my ultimate reference book for the coal plant diorama I am building. 

 

I believe I read that the Burlington did own some mines, did have interest in others, and used a good portion of the coal they carried for their own use.

The visit to the site of the Milw. Owned mine area at Cherry,IL as part of our BRHS annual meet got me to thinking. Did the Q own any coal mines ? I checked the 1928 Documentary History w/o any luck. Thanks, Leo Phillipp
