I recently read a commentary by Jason Shron (owner of Rapido Trains) in RMC.  He was also befuddled by the fact that modelling has jumped over the 60s and 70s decades.    Some folks call it the dark days of railroading.

I personally model 1966, but I can still use cars from the transition era.

Great comments.

It seems the transition era is still the era with the most interest.  Modern (1980 or after) is strong also.  The 1960s era seems to be a is a dangerous market.  We noticed this with an earlier model of a 1964 ART ice reefer in 2009 but thought that perhaps the dynamics had changed.  For the time being, it seems our best choice is for models from 1940-1955 and from 1980 forward.

Thanks for the information.
