[CBQ] BRHS Photo System

I tested the new BRHS Photo System today.  I went to the Members Only page, chose the BRHS Photo System link, then the Search for Images link.  When this came up, I looked for two subjects, FM-14 and Rail Detector.

Search engines can limit results, depending on what you choose.  For instance, I chose FM-14 as the Keyword search and it returned 45 images.  When I further narrowed it down, by searching FM-14 as the keyword, but added Maintenance of Way to the category, it returned 2 images.  You need to determine if you are looking broadly, or more specifically, an choose accordingly.

I also searched for Rail Detector which returned 20 images.  When searching with Detector as the Keyword, it returns 24 images.  Depending on what you're trying to do, you may have to try different Keyword permutations to cover all bases.

The search engine only picks up the Keywords that were entered in the metadata of the picture.  For example I searched for Keyword F-2 to look for the EMD locomotive and got only F-2 steam locomotive and freight car images.  When I searched for F2, I picked up the locomotives I was searching for.  You need to search for different variations, depending what conventions were used to determine keywords.

This system is a real boon for members who are looking for specific images, but couldn't search through the massive amounts of photos.  I searched Oregon to see what comes up for the city of Oregon IL.  215 images comes up, saving me much time compared to going through the old way of searching one-by-one through the Lines West Albums in Flicker.

I recommend you give it a try.  You will be amazed at how convenient it is!  Thanks to the people who made this happen!
