What is the “s” for? Steam generator?

Jim Sandrin I have some Microscale 87-15 Revised 1-95 sets (HO) that have the "SD9s" model designation plates. Other sheets with the same identifiers do not have the plates, so I cannot tell the timeframe of the run that included them.
