I don’t know of any planned building but I am sure rumors abounded.
However there are two reports of the Q thinkiing of buying other roads.
From “Burlington Route” by Richard Overton:
Page 230 - When the UP went bankrupt in 1893 Perkins suggested buying the Oregon Short Line. This would have necessitated building a line from Cheyenne to Granger, WY. In the end the CB&Q board declined to take the risk.
Page 234 - In 1900 Gen. Palmer offered to sell the Rio Grand Western (Grand Junction to Salt Lake) to the Q. This would tie with the C&S/Colorado Midland for a through line to Salt Lake. However nothing came of this.
It is interesting to think about what "might have been" if they had bought them. In one case they would have a line to the Northwest and in the other case they might have built a line to the SF Bay area (think Western Pacific).

All, I hate to dig this thread up but I wanted to revisit this thread considering I took down my layout this fall and have always been interested in mountain railroading. Would anyone want to speculate what a proposed route might have taken past Pueblo or Cheyenne like Hol mentioned if the CB&Q had continued West? Thanks Tristan
