Hello Fred & group.  Unit coal train operations to Duck Creek began on May 25, 1976.  The train did not come from Yates City but from Beardstown and Vermont to Canton (Dunfermline).  There was a special agreement made so Beardstown crews could operate on the trackage between Vermont and Canton which was Galesburg Division Prior right territory.  There were 5 trains a week by 1977.  The mileage was paid back to the Galesburg Division by giving them a turn in the Beardstown North End pool to run off the owed mileage.  I worked that turn as Conductor for about 3 years and it usually lasted about 4 months.  At one time, there were 5 to 10 cars of limestone rock to mix with the coal on the head end that was usually picked up at Beardstown.
