The following questions are specific to the Montgomery IL Sheepyard but perhaps folks could share general knowledge on the topic as well. Questions are numbered for ease of response. 1A: were the stock runs and pens at Montgomery paved in any way? 1B) If so, what material was used (wood blocks, bricks, asphalt, gravel, other)? 1C) Were there differences between the north barns and the south 'Monier' pens? 2A) did the stock cars unload directly into individual wooden ramps (one ramp per car-spot, like most small stockyards) or did they unload onto a platform to which the ramps were connected? I recall Steve Holding telling me about the gates that could be extended or retracted, so Im thinking that there was a platform but want to make sure. 2B) If there was a platform, what was it made of? Wood or concrete? 2C) As with the first question, were there differences between the north and south configurations? 3A) The Sanborn charts show a watertower and a house/office. Were those still there in the 1967/8 timeframe? 3B) if the water tower was still there, what was it made of ' wood or steel? 4) where was the manure stored before being shipped out in gondolas? 5) any other unique features that should be captured? Thanks for any and all information.
