Furthermore, before the Q built Lake Bracken, they built and took their water from Lake Rice.  And before Lake Rice, the Q built and took their water from Gale Lake located in Randall (what is now East Galesburg).  I have a photo showing Gale Lake and the Q's pump house which was alongside the Q's branch down into the East Galesburg brick yards.  The remains of a stand pipe to fill steam locomotives was still standing into the mid-1970's.

BTW - Knox College owned the land around Lake Rice, and squatters started building cabins around the lake.  After the Q built Lake Bracken, the Q either sold or relinquished the rights to the lake to Knox College.  Knox College, in turn, sold off the parcels around the lake to the squatters and other new landowners.  The large pipe that pumped the water from the lake to the yards was hooked up to the Galesburg city water system and the flow reversed to serve the new community around the lake, now called Soangetaha Country Club.
