Here are two shots that  may help. I do not know the photographer of the C&S156 shot, but both were taken at Seventh Street in Denver. So, depending on your time frame, here are two examples. Jim Sandrin

I photographed all four of the units in their Burlington paint, but sadly none from the rear.  Sorry.

In looking through photos of the CB&Q SW1200s cab-end labeling, there appears consistency between the first and second sets of engines with the layout Bill describes; the lettering appears black and a serif style font. The font seems to have gone to a san-serif (block) lettering in the mid/late 1960s; this shows up if the unit were repainted. The FW&D SW1200s were delivered several years after the first group of CB&Qs and several years before the second group of CB&Q SW1200s.

Unfortunately, casting doubt on assuming this transferred to the FW&D practice, the C&S SW1200s were delivered a month before the FW&D units, and my older photos of those units seem to show yellow serif numbers and letters. By the BN merger, the yellow disappeared and replaced with black, block lettering.

I have thoroughly looked through Steve Alan Goens book on the FW&D and find no photos with the cab-end of the SW1200s. In his book is the only photo I have seen of red #605 cab-end, tucked into the pages about cabooses; it shows white, block lettering.

It would be great if some one can come up with a photo! Thanks, Tim Wells
