Don’t discount using vinyl…. ….just use it as a stencil….remove the lettering instead of the background. Spray the letters and viola! you have your sign. It is likely most all such lettering was not sign painted except for very early examples. Charlie Vlk On Jul 6, 2022, at 3:16 PM, Jerold Crawford <jeroldincitruspark@gmail.com> wrote:
I rebuild and restore wig-wag signals as well as other antique RR signals. I had a sign painter but he is unable to paint for me due to aging issues. I am looking for someone that would be able to pain to otherwise letter full sized traffic signals such as crossbucks, stop when swinging/red signal signs, # of track signs. I may be able to supply the metal signs in some cases or if you know a vendor you can obtain them from, that would be even better. I live in Tampa, FL and have not been able to find a sign painter or someone that can make a regulation traffic signal, I am 68 and remember when people were skilled and could paint signs. Now all anyone wants to do is slap some vinyl letters in place. In our Florida weather, they will not last a couple of weeks before they fall apart. I am especially looking for someone to make signs with white letters on a black background. Would appreciate any leads.
