The first photo was taken in Sheep Canyon, Wyo., which is north of Greybull, Wyo., and hard to access! One has to assume the photographer road the train to the photo site. The second photo was taken on Crawford Hill, Nebraska.

Mark,

There were 16 four unit FT sets delivered to the Q starting in late 1944 and continuing into 1945. During the war, they were not broken up as they were drawbar equipped. After the war, when the Q purchased some F2 model units, some of the sets were separated into three unit consists with one F2 and two FTs. I am not aware of any run through operation of the Q FTs during the war or after it. They operated from Chicago west to Denver and into Wyoming. There is a photo of a four unit consist in the Wind River canyon in Wyoming pulling a train of tank cars. The photo was taken by a Q company photographer. One of the primary reasons for the acquisition of the FTs, was to release 2-10-4 locomotives for service in the Illinois coal fields. They also provided greater availability, lower maintenance and fuel savings over the 2-10-4s in main Line service. Attached are a couple of photos from the BRHS Flickr gallery in the members only section, showing FT operations during the war. The first is in the Wind River Canyon and the second is an unknown western location.

Greetings everyone,

During WWII the War Production Board allocated some FT sets to the CB&Q.
These were, I understand, to primarliy increase efficiency of fuel oil shipments to the Pacific north west.
I also understand the sets were used in a power pool on other routes as well.

Can anyone add to the above scant information?
I guess much of the SE -NW route would be over the C&S -FW&D.
Did the sets runs as four or three unit sets in WWII?
