The reason for the additional power  F7 was that there was a "boat (train) load of railfans and others riding that day.  I was not in Lincoln at the time of this occurence, but I've heard lots of stuff about it.  There was an overflow of passengers for whatever equipment was used...Nothing about a 3 way meet makes any sense to me.   Salem is between Falls City and Table Rock and there is certainly no "attractions" to see other than the two "last runs"

I would bet that there is a companion shot of the E7 that may show the third train. The collection is in order by road number and I ended up starting in the GP7s and have worked down into the F3s. I'll have to scan through the E7s when I go in on Monday.

I can't explain the three-way meet, but No. 15-42 was filled with railfans that day, riding its last run.  The train normally consisted of motor car 9767, painted aluminum to match its trailer, the Silver Pendulum.  But the 9767 was ill that day so an E7 substututed for it.

While working on the Seacrest Collection at the LSRM this morning, I came across this photo and wanted to share it here. Perhaps Pete Hedgepeth can fill in some more details.

CB&Q F3AB Nos. 127AB and another F-unit AB set meet passenger train 15-42 and Salem, Nebraska, on February 24, 1962. This was the last southbound run of Train 15-42, a Lincoln-Kansas City local. The Q's one-of-a-kind pendulum car, Silver Pendulum, brings up the markers on 15-42. The negative envelope notes this was a 3-way meet, but only two trains are visible in the photo. - Jim Seacrest photo, James Seacrest Collection, Lake Superior Railroad Museum
