Greetings everyone, It is important to recognize that information on the Joint Line, particularly the earlier years, is fragmentary. Gems like the Conductor's Car Report are rare indeed. It is wonderful that it has been shared. THANK YOU! If anyone has access to gems such as this I would be delighted to hear from you. Most of the ATSF 2-10-2s on the Joint Line were early engines from the #3800 class. The #6300 (April 12) is probably a CB&Q engine. When I have some time I will look at the train numbers (most of the Joint Line trains were scheduled in the timetables.) and the crew names (I have lists of ATSF and C&S engine men and train men somewhere!). It will give a glimpse at life on the Joint Line in 1937. Mark

In brief:
ATSF and C&S trains, from the years 1900 to 1995 (the year of the big merger), between Denver and Pueblo CO, operated under Joint Operating Agreements. Under the JOAs the C&S was a tennant on the ATSF line, but the line was operated as a single
line with each company providing equipment in the proportion of the tonnage, passenger numbers of the previous month.
(Revenue and costs of running the line were shared according to the agreed formulae.)
Locomotives and equipment, including way cars/ cabooses, were drawn from this pool. It became not unusual for:
ATSF and C&S freight trains to combine for operational reasons.
ATSF way cars on C&S trains and vice versa.
The allocation of crews is less certain. But the mechanism certainly changed over time.
It is likely, initially, that C&S crews manned the C&S equipment. It is possible that the crew pools in Denver were combined: evidence is lacking.
By the 1920s bidding for the Joint Line (C&S Southern division) freights became less attractive for C&S men and the pool diminished: ATSF men took up the slack. Passenger work remained "plum" jobs and were bid for strongly.
C&S men did end up on ATSF trains; often working along side ATSF crew.
At some point, it appears, the ASTF local unions exerted pressure and the C&S men gradually yielded all positions on the line. It seems that the expedient was to prevent new C&S joint the pools.
Hol Wagner is best placed to provide more informtion.

Hello everyone,
I've just scanned a conductor's consist book from the Joint Line around 1937 and I've got a few questions. The biggest question: which railroad did Conductor HB Decker work for? Sometimes he was assigned a C&S caboose, other times a Santa Fe caboose. Some train numbers look like they are C&S trains, others Santa Fe. He uses Santa Fe station numbers in the book. He was on trains generally pulled by 2-10-2's, but they could've belonged to either railroad! I'm familiar with the joint operation as far as sharing main lines, but were crews pooled also? I've always assumed each railroad provided crews and power for their trains. Here is the link if anyone wants to look at it. If anyone wants to add it (or anything else I have) to the Files section, feel free. I know groups.io storage is limited so I don't do it myself. https://movingthefreight.com/railroads/chicago-burlington-quincy/ Also, does anyone have a station number list for the CB&Q? I haven't been able to find one for either the older or the newer numbers. Thanks in advance, Julian Erceg _._,_._,_ Groups.io Links: You receive all messages sent to this group.
