Rupert:
There is a great book written on the history of the North Coast Limited by Bill Kuebler. This very informative book indicates that CB&Q 483 along with the five NP sleeper-observations were modernized in 1954 while being used on the NCL. The book also contains
several photographs and train consists between that time and 1967, wherein the 483 is used in the train.
Based on the above information, and information in CB&Q public timetables, I would say that the 483 was regularly assigned to the NCL until early 1967, when these cars were no longer used on a regular basis on the NCL. Sometime after that, probably later in
1967, the car was painted aluminum. In the late 60's, I personally remember riding in the lounge area of the 483 between Galesburg and Lincoln when it was used as a spare lounge (and possibly a dormitory) on the Denver Zephyr.
Also, I have never seen any information indicating that 483 ever changed ownership away from CB&Q.

Subject: [CBQ] Buffet-obs-sleeper 483 Minneapolis Club
I am trying to establish if CB&Q buffet-observation-sleeper 483 Minneapolis Club left the North Coast Limited in 1954 or not. A Rail Classics article and the Car Names, Numbers
and Consists list state that in 1954 the number of North Coast Limited train sets was reduced to five and car 483 was surplus. The Pullman Project spreadsheet also shows the car as being transferred back to the CB&Q in 1954.
However, photos dated 1964 and 1965 in Mike Spoor’s Volume 2 and in Zephyr 65 show it still in service on the NCL in the Loewy two-tone green paint. A further photo in Volume 2 of the car, this time in aluminum/grey paint, indicates that it was painted after
the end of observation cars on the NCL.
Thanks for any guidance.
