The 181 was never repainted aluminum/SSS.  It received ribbon lettering and was one of several (but not all) heavyweight diners (both green and aluminum) lettered "Dining Car" below the belt rail with the car number centered beneath.  I've never seen a roster photo of the car, but matched this information from a published photo of an August 1964 fantrip (Caboose; Brian Solomon and John Gruber; MBI Publishing, 2001, p. 148) and the train's consist.

Well, since we know 183 did get SSS, it is plausible that the 181 may have. My reason for wanting to know about the 181 specifically is that I am using a consist from BB #36 to model that specific train. The 181 is the only car I haven't been able to determine what color it was during the early to middle 60s. I am picking up a brass version of the car finished in SSS, so I can run it as is until I know otherwise.
