In 1922 most of the major railroads entering St. Louis had their
chief engineers meet with the C. E. Smith PE consultants. Their aim
was to improve the interchange in the St. Louis area. A report was
published (reprints are available on line) - "Report of the Engineers
Committee St. Louis-East St. Louis Railroad Terminals". The book is
filled with maps, problematic issues and possible solutions, and
traffic patterns. Taking the month of Oct 1920, the CB&Q (East) had 12,740
carloads inbound and outbound. Of those, 128 were moved to the MoPac
at Dupo while 93 were westbound for the MP and 20 were moved southbound MP.
Of the outbound loads 174 were moved to Dupo (by comparison 377 were
moved to the L&N) while MP southbound cars were 458. Ot the
totals, 1587 were moved from the CB&Q Paducah Division to the
Hannibal Division (via the Alton Bridge). A total of 5650 cars were scheduled
for movement beyond the St. Louis Switching District.

The volume also noted dwell times, freight houses, team tracks, yard
capacity and a multitude of other minutae.
