According to the 1965 Diagram Book, 23000-23099 were class XML-1, built at Havelock in 1955 Both the diagram and the ORER show them as having DF loaders. In the diagram notes, cars 23000 / 4 / 5 / 11 / 12 / 19 / 24 / 25 / 27 / 28 / 29 / 32 / 35 / 36 / 37 /
62 / 74 / 78 / 91 / 97 had 14 belts, but no date of installation is shown. BN also listed them as having been built in 1955.
In the August 1955 ORER, the car number series is shown, along with the DF note, but no quantity of cars was shown, usually an indication that the cars were under construction and would be in service before the next ORER edition.
Just in passing, I haven’t found a class “new” XM-1 (as opposed to the original XM-1 in 1910). I suspect that 23000-23099, the first new design of
cars to be built after the XM-33’s, was to be given class XM-1 but, with the special loading equipment, the XM-1 became XML-1.

Hi Bill,
Back in September 2020 we were discussing CB&Q XM-33's. You provided a list of several number series with great detail information. (Thanks!)
You stated that 23000-23099 were built by Havelock 1954. I show this series as XML-1's built in 1955. I have a photo of 23024 that shows the car as built in 1955 as well. As you mentioned in your original post, the 15 odd XM-33's that got belt rails were designated
XML box cars. My photos of 23000-23099 series cars both show DF logos, so I would assume the XML-1 designation might be more correct. Can you (or anyone else) provide any additional details on why we show different info?
BTW, my two photos show these cars in a Way of The Zephyr / Everywhere West scheme with 8' 6-panel doors.
