Dale:
It is wonderful that you have taken such good care of Bill Hammer's slides and have decided to share them with the BRHS.

I want you to know that there are two photo repositories in use. One is the BRHS Flickr site and the other is the BRHS website's Photo Library. Sharing them with either or both of these photo systems is personally fine with me.

Regarding the transporting of them to BRHS, the size of your files is definitely over kill. Large digital image files are needed for use in printing and publications.  For display on computer screens which are 72ppi (pixels per inch) very large files do not improve the quality.  Wide screen monitors like mine will display 1920pixels by 1200 pixels. So images displayed full screen on my monitor will likely be reduced by my browser if they are bigger than 1920ppi and the extra data discarded.  That means that most files over 3MB are most likely going to suffer this fate in order to fit on my screen. Microsoft has a feature called Spotlight Photos on my Windows 10 computer. Each time I turn on my computer, my monitor screen is filled with a beautiful photo in high detail. The photos change automatically every few days. I save these on my computer. The file size ranges between 500KB to 3.5MB.

As Michael Woodruff suggested, keep your originals, make reduced copies of each. Reduce them by image width not by file size. I would suggest a width of 1920pixels (1920/72 = 26.6 inches on a monitor) and what ever the height the reduction works out to be, (keeping the original aspect ratio). Then email them a few at a time to Chuck Zeiler (or me if Chuck prefers).

All,

I have scanned a number of Bill Hammer's 35 mm B&W negatives. Rough guess is there are about 40 - 50 images at roughly 82 MB per scan. (I do high resolution scans. Probably higher than needed.)  Most location and specific dates are unknown. Would it be best to send these on to the "Flickr" admins, or trickle them out so that comments can be obtained on more specific info. Bill Hammer would like to share these and preserve them for the future.

Thinking about it, the large size precludes sending via email.

Ray,

There are four of us currently involved directly with the Flickr gallery. Included are Louis Zadnichek, the originator of the project and primary source for many of the photos, Chuck Zeiler, who has an extensive collection of his own photos related to the Q and has done much of the creation and organization of the Flickr site itself, Rupert Gamlen in New Zealand, who has a large collection of Q photos and material and who is an outstanding researcher and organizer, and myself with my own collection of Q photos that both my late father and I took over the years starting about 1936 for my dad. In addition, the directors of the BRHS have provided assistance in so many ways including providing a platform for the Q Flickr gallery within the BRHS website. I know I will overlook someone, but specifically Jack Schroeder, Dave Lotz, Charlie Vlk and Hol Wagner have always provided valuable assistance with information and material wherever possible or needed. We are so very pleased with the BRHS relation allowing the material that we have collected to be available to the very people that can use it, rather than keeping it confined to a relatively small group. It is gratifying to see that BRHS members are using the Flickr gallery.

A BIG THANK YOU to the fLickr team that has coordinated and managed and maintained all the files. I know it's a lot of work, but know that we all appreciate your efforts.

And to all those that have contributed photos to build up the 30,000 plus photos, THANK YOU for sharing these with us.

PS I may have missed something, what members make up the flicker team?
