Since 204738 was originally painted mineral red, that lends credibility that 204739 and 204740 were most likely painted mineral red when built, since both were built in or before 1944. Thanks for the link, I didn’t know about Rail and Wire. It’s unfortunate that BB#27 is silent on paint colors over the years, and if anyone out there has any firsthand information, they’re keeping it to themselves. For now, we know scale cars were painted mineral red initially, and at some point in the 1950s, they were painted black. No photos have surfaced to support Omaha orange, though other MOW number series cars were painted Omaha orange beginning in 1948.

I have found that in the Rail and Wire Winter 2019 issue 261 has a color picture of 204738 ..Go to -  Learn -  Rail & Wire - Current issue then to winter 2019 p on Pg 15.
