Thank you for your suggestions.  The Soundtraxx site was helpful for the selection of diesel airhorns.  Louis, does the flickr site on the BRHS have a specific section on steam whistles or just photos of steam locomotives where I need to look closely at their whistles?  Thanks again.

Kieth - Find yourself a copy of the "Sunday Only" stereo album put out by Mobil Fidelity in the mid-1960s.  It has Q steam whistle sounds. The album occasionally appears on EBay.

As I remember, some years ago, there was a long thread about Q steam whistles and what class of locomotives were equipped with what kind of whistles.

You can also go to the BRHS Members Section and access their Flickr Page section that will show you what kinds of whistles were on various classes of steam power - Louis

Soundtraxx has this list of general diesel airhorn use by railroad:

and this page on locomotive airhorn history:

Soundtraxx states that most EMD first generation diesel were primarily equipped with Leslie A125 or Leslie A200 by EMD. The WABCO E series they say were similar, but used primarily on Alcos. They also turned out to have wear issues.

On the new Walthers Proto GP7s with LokSound, if you set the airhorn CV to 15, you get a dual A200. It is an excellent horn sample.

I am programming some DCC decoders for my Burlington locomotives.  I would like to use the correct CBQ diesel airhorns (i.e. Nathan, Leslie, etc.) and steam whistles that were used in the prototypes.  Maybe this topic has been covered previously, but I can't find any reference to it.  Is there a master list for what horns the diesels used by type (i.e. GP9, SW1, E8, etc.) or whistles in steam (i.e. 2-8-0, 4-8-4, etc.)?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
