Thanks Nelson!  I would be curious if any of the 50' cars were still in use in the 60s.

Burlington Bulletin No.7 covers the XM-32 series cars. The first 50 cars built in Nov.-Dec. 1940 were equipped with air, signal and steam lines and Allied trucks. They were painted Pullman green. The number series for these cars was 30000-30049. The second 50 cars were also equipped with Allied trucks but they were painted boxcar red and didn’t have steam and signal lines. Another 100 cars in series 31000-31999 were painted Pullman green and  outfitted with signal and steam line and Allied trucks in. 1941 Between 1944-45, the express cars were renumbered. 3000-30049 became 8000-80049 and 31000-31099 became 81000-8199. At that time, the Q repurposed 50 series XM-33 boxcars built in 1941 for express service. These cars were numbered 85000-8549, painted Pullman green, and given Allied trucks. My model represents one of these cars.

Until 1944, all express cars carried freight car stenciling, i.e. the slogans Everywhere West and Way of the Zephyrs, whether in boxcar red or Pullman Green point. After 1944, the express car lettering eliminated the slogans and added Baggage – Mail – Express in white lettering on the Pullman green background. In 1947, the Q bought a large number of war surplus troop kitchens and converted them into baggage cars. The 40 ft. XM-32s were returned to freight service between 1948 and 1951. Fifty XM-33 express cars were still on the ORER in 1952. I have no information beyond that date.

Does anyone know the time frame during which these cars were being used?
