You are probably correct.   The R4 and R5 were typically modern head lighted and Precision Scale may very well have done them for a C&S NG brass project.  Maybe the timing of their appearance on the market vs the A-N engine would be a clue.

Charlie –

After years of searching, I purchased an un-built All-Nation Prairie at the 2019 O Scale March Meet here in Chicago.  Looking at the illustrations and the parts bags with the kit, there’s no sign of a Cuckoo clock headlight.  The illustrations of the stock kit show the typical All-Nation die cast headlight and that’s what’s in the detail parts bag.  I’ll be substituting a lost wax headlight of the type used on the R-4a Prairies after the Cuckoo clocks were replaced.

Pure speculation on my part, but I wonder if Precision Scale originally made the Cuckoo clock headlight for imported brass C&S narrow gauge engines.

Most of those who could definitively answer the question are no longer with us (maybe
Pat Egan knows??) but I guess the part might have been made as part of the Cary-boilered CB&Q Prairie project from All Nations Line.

Ray,

Nolan is correct. Precision PCS-7504 is a Burlington / C&S Cuckoo clock headlight. Attached is a copy of their catalog page showing it. It is on the right side, fourth row down. The price is $8.00. I just ordered some parts from them. If they have them in stock, they ship very quickly. Out of stock items are backordered. I placed my order via their email address: precisionscaleco@gmail.com. They are under new ownership and have relocated to Pasco, WA.
