Thread-topic: [CBQ] Track Scales
Per request from Nelson Moyer, attached is a list of track scales as of 6/22/72, which should include all former CB&Q track scales in place at that time.  Scales are listed by location, ownership, length and capacity in tons.  The file is 2MB, so hopefully it will attach successfully.

The list includes privately owned scales, because it was created to identify all scales that railroad scale inspectors were responsible for inspecting.  Railroads typically provided inspection services (for a fee) for private scale owners.

Glen, will you please post the BN scale list. That could answer many questions about multiple marks for the same station, e.g. SJ and STJ for St. Joseph, MO and HAN and HB for Hannibal. We know Dayton’ Bluff changed from DF to DB with the merger. This is important to steam and transition era modelers in particular.

The Streator scale was from Fairbanks per the table on page 58 of BB#27. I’ve never seen Plattsmouth reporting marks on a car, but it’s on the BB#27 list. All of the rest of the entries are known reweigh stations. Why not Plattsmouth?

Eric:

The Streator scale evidently survived the merger, as it was included on a list, dated June 22, 1972, of BN and privately owned scales to be tested by BN Scale Inspectors.  It was shown on that list as a 50' static scale, 125 ton capacity, owned by BN.  The manufacturer was not listed, but my guess is that it was either Fairbanks-Morse or Strait.

Subject: [CBQ] Streator scale track

Group,

The other day Nelson Moyer posted about reweigh stations and reminded me of the table on page 58 of Burlington Bulletin 27 showing locations of scale tracks.  One of the places listed is Streator, Ill. and I commented on not knowing about that having done plenty of research on this area.  Turns out I was "misremembering" as I do have a document showing the location of that track.  It is from a Q Side Track Record with a last revision date of Jan. 1928 which would slightly predate the illustration showing the Fairbanks scale installations.  Attached is a portion of that Side Track Record.  The scale track is numbered 61.

With information there are always follow up questions.  Does anybody remember this scale track being in place in Streator and when it may have been removed from service?  Thanks.

Eric Mumper
