All - Newly rebuilt U.S. Sugar Corp. ex-FEC No. 148 has been reportedly equipped with a five chime whistle from a retired CB&Q steam locomotive, number unknown.  This steel whistle most likely was cast in the foundry at either the Aurora Shops or West Burlington Shops.

This style of whistle was applied to many classes of Q steam power including both Class O-5-B No. 5632 and Class O-1-A 4960, both of 1960s fan trip fame. To hear what these two locomotives would've sounded like in service, check the two following links:



When I heard No. 148's whistle blow, it brought back many good memories to me of riding behind 5632 and 4960 on fan trips between Chicago and Galesburg during the 1960s - Louis
