Yes, I saw that too, and having grown up on a farm in the 1960's never really gave it a second thought.  Looks like a 'Slow Moving Vehicle'  emblem to me.   All of our farm machinery had them mounted on the rear of the machine, visible to approaching motorists.  My guess is that it is some conductor's (or just somebody's) attempt at additional safety. Even tho it would appear that the ones on the waycar are not reflectorezed.  Google 'Slow Moving Vehicle emblem' and that will explain it in more depth.

There are two large red triangles attached to the rear of the body, one on either side of the door. I can’t recollect seeing those on another waycar.
