Hol- Thanks for the comment. The photo raised a tickle in the back of my brain about the U50s being banned but I never knew the reason. I think the same thing happened on the C&NW for the DD35s but the reason was they were hard on the track IIRC. Yes, that is one of the UP's Alco RS-27s.DL-640s. The Pennsy's saw pool service on the Q in 1968-69, but I never saw one of the UP's on the Q. And UP's U50s and U50Cs were delivered to the UP over the Q but only very rarely operated on the Q as part of the pooling of power -- and BN banned both models from its rails shortly after the merger because they wouldn't fit into the Q diesel shops at Clyde and Denver. I saw a U50 lose its air horns and cab rooftop amber flasher here in Denver when the attempt was made to run it into the diesel shop. From what little background is visible in the photo for sale, my bet is it was taken at North Platte on the UP.
Ran across this one last week on eBay and thought I would pass it on! Three CB&Q SD45's followed by a UP U50 and another UP unit!

Here's the kicker: The final unit appears to be a UP Alco RS-27. Note the rounded cab, which is shared by early UP GP's and GP20's. But the GP9's had transverse air tanks, and the last unit has an air tank in line with the locomotive and above the fuel tank. Also note the lack of a DB blister. The UP GP9's and GP20's had the very pronounced EMD DB blisters. If you look at the shadowing behind the cab you can see the air intakes and just a little shadowing at upper mid-long hood where the RS-27 DB inlet vents are. The U50 cab obscures the rear of the unit, but I think you can barely discern the full height radiator of an RS-27. Unless someone else sees something I don't, I think this is a Q SD45 - Q SD45 - Q SD45 - UP U50 - UP RS-27 lashup! Pheneomenal!
