Ed - Much appreciate your comments, particularly about Gunnison, CO.  My Mom was born in 1918 and family history passed down to me reflect how how frightened her parents in south Alabama were at the time. Plus, I had a great uncle on my Dad's side who contracted the Spanish Flu aboard a troop ship returning from Europe and nearly died of it. Here in south Alabama this Sunday afternoon there are several confirmed cases, so it's pretty much seeded itself all over the country. STAY HEALTHY - Louis

John M. Barry's book The Great Influenza is a huge book, not many photos.

There have been a few more books about the pandemic and medical historians have good book according to the reviews.

A Cruel Wind: Pandemic Flu in America, 1918-1920

Dorothy Ann Pettit, ‎Janice Bailie - 2008 provides evidence from a large collection of newspaper articles and published letters.

Railway Age https://books.google.com/books?id=w0E_AQAAMAAJ&pg=PA480&dq=Railroad+workers+1918+Influenza&hl=en&newbks=1&newbks_redir=0&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwjzy5WB7a7oAhWRLs0KHYFqCW8Q6AEwB3oECAkQAg#v=onepage&q=Railroad%20workers%201918%20Influenza&f=false

discusses some aspects of the 1918 pandemic.

Most authors rely on Barry's definitive work on the spread of and response to the pandemic for reliable details, but he does not go into the fate of specific occupations.

A book about Butte in the 1918 Pandemic discusses the issues faced by railroad men who had to stay over night in local hotels and then when illness limited the number of personnel and fewer trains ran some railroad men were packed into hotels.

If I find any photos I will post them.

At the end of February I showed a documentary about the 1918 Influenza to my US history since 1865 classes. Put some fear into them about their spring break plans.
