My research indicates my Great Grandfather was the engineer on 107 different CB&Q locomotives. With the help of Hol Wagner, Louis Zadnichek, Chuck Zeiler and others I have been able to locate photographs of 78 of the 107 engines. I am still digging everywhere imaginable to find digital (or purchase slides, negatives or photographs) of each locomotive J.D. Toal ran during his 50-year career with the Q (1887-1937). It is a very interesting list of engines that saw a lot of successful innovation and less memorable failures. He was a witness and participant in the transition from steam to diesel and, in his time records, he wrote of his first assignment to a Doodlebug, "Have to run that motorcar thingy." He wasn't a fan of the transition from steam!

I could use the help of all of you that have collections of images of CB&Q steam locomotives. The attached list breaks the engines I am looking for into classification and then numerically. If you have, or know where to find, photographs of any of these engines, please let me know. I really appreciate everyone's patience and support of my excitement and enthusiasm about honoring my Great Grandfather's career.

Good health and fortune.
