Rich,
You are correct. I posted this before looking at Bulletin 10. The shadow stripe was painted in 1948 and lasted 2 years after lots of washing that faded the striping. An it did not have the red striping on the sides.
Should have looked this up before I posted it.

Ray,
The original E-Unit Bulletin (#10) shows a very deteriorated shadow stripe paint scheme on 9921B on December 31, 1950. The caption said it was re-painted shortly after into the standard scheme. We had a discussion on the old list many years ago, where
I acquired a photo that seems to indicate another unit was painted into this scheme. I believe other people (Hol?) corroborated this fact. I'll have to dig around for that photo.

Subject: [CBQ] E7 with Shadow Lines
I'm looking at modeling the E7 with shadow lines, #9921. I have a one photo of it but would like to find additional ones. It appears to me that the Q did NOT paint a red stripe on the upper part of the engine, as well as on the lower
rivet line as well. The anti-climber also does not appear to have been painted in red.
I would assume that the nose and imitation grills, on the side of the upper head light, might be black, since the red side striping is missing.
I do have other photos of 9921 but without the shadow striping.
If anyone has information on this engine, I would appreciate it. Also, how long did it retain the shadow striping. Did the matching B unit also have the striping?
Thanks,
