Better look at a map, Pete! Ucross was the first station west of the Q connection at Clearmont, on the WYOMING Railway. Ucross was the headquarters of the Ucross Ranch, one the "units" of the vast L.Z. Leiter estate. In case you are wondering, the "Z" in the name stays for "Zeigler", also the name of my hometown and yes, there is a connection! Both coal company, for which the town was named and the Wyoming properties were owned by the same family. I have, in my collection, the original "brand registration" for the Ucross ranch. It is a "U" sitting atop a cross. Today, Ucross is the home of the "Ucross Foundation" which promotes "Western American" culture, i.e. music, art, etc. . And no there was no Q coal dock at Ucross! BTW, my grandparents lived at Ucross from 1920 until 1922, when he was job superintendent for Leiter's irrigation project. One photo identifies the location as Ucross, WY and the other as Hill City, SD. To further confuse the information, there is a photo on P. 84 of the Burlington in Transition book by Corbin and Hardy of a very similar coal dock with the location identified as Edgemont, SD. Can anyone identify the correct location of the photo attached? BTW, from what I can determine, the RR didn’t even pass through Ucross, which is almost non existent today. Rather that line to Sheridan passes north of Ucross between Clearmont and Ulm, WY. , Bill Barber Gravois Mills, MO _._,_._,_
