The Passenger Train Journal published an article in December 1988 and January 1989 by the late Ed DeRouin entitled “Land of the Burlingtons”, which told the history of the CB&Q
passenger services from about 1950, including -
“Land of the Burlingtons” became the theme of the 1969 advertising campaign which promoted the advantages of living and working in the suburban territory served by the CB&Q. The ads began on September 15 on Chicago and Aurora television stations and were seen
during selected news broadcasts and during other prime-time spots. Advertisements appearing in local newspapers complimented the televisions commercials. Perhaps the best remembered items from this campaign are the eight pop-art posters depicting images of
Aurora, Hinsdale, Brookfield, Downers Grove, Oakbrook, La Grange, Western Springs and Naperville. These posters were available to the public for one dollar each, and, judging by the way they rapidly sold out, were a very popular item.”
The article includes a roster of suburban equipment, photos of stations and equipment, and a copy of the Hinsdale poster.
