Thread-topic: [CBQ] BLI CB&Q F3 Announcement
A review of F3 photos in the Flickr account in the Members Only section of the BRHS web site shows that as early as 1949 the F3s had the additional headlight casting in the nose door. The photos range from 1948 through 1966 for the 116 -121 numbered units. The 1948 photo show no headlight in the nose door but the 1949 photo does show it.

These photo albums in the Members Only section are a valuable resource for doing quick and easy research for specific detail questions.

Yes, BLI sent me a photo of 116D with a Mars light and said the model represented the 1960s. Problem is that most F3s were retried in the early to mid-1960, and the transition era ended in 1959. Most prospective buyers would be transition era modelers with modeling dates from 1947 to 1959. I don't understand BLI's marketing decision that cuts out most of the potential buyers for this model by adding the Mars light.

What year did the first Mars light modification take place, and what locomotives (if any) in the 116-121 series got them by 1953? That would be an important consideration for anyone contemplating dropping $979.97 list for the ABBA set.

Nose door headlights were added along with the FTs. See photo by Chuck Zeiler
