If my calculations are correct the WB trip was shortened by 1 hour and 30 minutes and EB only 25 minutes. There must have been some station stops eliminated in order to decrease the WB running time.
The Comet must have picked up the WB local traffic.

In the Railway Age of May 1928, in relation to shorter journeys by various companies between Chicago and the Twin Cities, was the following -
The North Coast Limited of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy will henceforth be known as the New North Coast Limited. It leaves Chicago at 12.10 pm instead of 10.35 am, and arrives in St Paul at 10.40 pm instead of 10.35 and Minneapolis at 11.35pm instead of 11.25. Returning, it leaves Minneapolis at 8.30 pm and St Paul at 9.30 pm as previously and arrives in Chicago at 9.00 am instead of 9.25. On June 18 the Burlington will add a new train, the Comet, which will operate on the old schedule of the North Coast Limited between Chicago and the Twin Cities.
This is the first reference I can recall to the Comet or the New North Coast Limited. Any idea how long they ran?
