I love VueScan. When I worked at Thomas Nelson Publishing, I was in the IT department. Our storage room was repurposed to another group, and I was given a TABLOID size scanner. VueScan is the driver I use on an old Mac G4 to run it.

Thanks!

I found that my Canon MP990 has a film/slide scanner built into the lid.   It works great but the software limits it to 35mm camera film and slides….and it will not scan the longer area of the aperture card image.   I found a program (VueScan) that works with the Canon and will scan anything within the area of the scanner light source and it works fine by just laying the card on the flatbed and pre scanning and cropping to the aperture for the final scan.  I am going to make a holder that works like the film strip / slide holder that comes with the unit to align the aperture cards square to the scanner and consistently in the same spot so I don’t have to move the cropped area.  It also has higher resolution and other features.

Thanks,
Charlie

Charlie,

You should be able to simply place the microfilm card in the upper right hand corner of the flat bed and scan in the transparency mode using the lid back light. I use that method with my Epson 2450 photo scanner any time that i have an odd size transparency for which I don’t have a template. Using the right and top edges of the scanner will provide a good guide to square the media. I have also "eye balled” media to approximately square and then straightened the image with photo software after the scan is complete.
