The CD (I mistakenly said DVD) I have is entitled "Sounds From the Steam Locomotive", and includes CB&Q 2-8-2 #5352, 4-6-4 #4003, 4-8-4 #5629, plus C&S 2-10-2 #809 and 2-8-0 #648.  I thought I had listened to every choice of whistle, but I may have to check out the D&RGW whistle that you suggested.

Scott,

Thanks for the suggestion.  I have the Smithsonian Folkways Recording CD Stack Music Spectacular (Track #5) of CB&Q 2-10-4 #6324 departing Centralia IL with a coal train.  Unfortunately, it doesn't give a clearly defined sound to me, as there appears to be a very nice sounding echo,  Regardless of whatever selection any of us chooses, the sound of the prototype will be different just due to the Doppler effect of a train approaching and departing your location at the time.   I went through most of the Soundtraxx whistle samples that sounded relevant and settled on D&RGW K-37 2--8-2 #497, which is a 5 chime whistle.  I wish there was still a 2-10-4 still around.....

Nolen,

I used C&S #801 as my whistle selection for my steam locomotives, other than the 0-6-0 and 0-8-0.  It sounded the closest to me, based on the DVD recording of CB&Q locomotives that I bought.

Group,

I believe I have previously read on this chat list the CB&Q M-4 2-10-4, O-5 4-8-4, and S-4 4-6-4 all shared a common whistle.  Such being the case, now that I've decided it is time to equip my locomotives with DCC and sound:  does anyone have recommendations for which Soundtraxx Tsunami2 whistle is appropriate for the aforementioned locomotives.  I have recordings of all of them but it's driving me nuts to pick the right one.  Thanks for any suggestions.
