In deep Southern Illinois (Beardstown Division), the Q had a gravel pit at Forman, Illinois.

The bulk of the article will document Q ownership,operations  and Spurs at Montgomery (several distinct and separate sites) Sugar Grove, Oswego, Yorkville, Sheridan,etc. the article will document the great distances the Q went away from mainlines and branches to reach deposits.

Interestingly due to their transitory nature the pits and spurs are not mentioned in ETTs and were often located, worked until played out or nearly so and then sold.
