Opps should proofread first. Repacking of plain or solid bearings was required every 16 months.

PKD means packed, as in the wheel bearings were repacked on the date and at the location stenciled on the car next to the PKD lettering. In the days before roller bearings, plain wheel bearings were required to be repacked every two & half years. The railroad that had the car on its property at the time did the job in one of their shops and then billed the owning railroad.

Thank you very much for your input! Please let me know what "PKD" stands for – I can read a "PKD GT (Shop?) 8 23 40 (Date Built) CB&Q RR on a photo of CB&Q 192600.
As for the reweigh marks, I must do some more investigation and I have more questions about that, too.
