Bill, It's a really dark gondola so it's hard to see in the picture Erik

If you do an internet search there's old plat maps showing the spur when it was serving the Quarry, now the swimming park, then there were caves that were used to store beer in them. The spur also served the city power plant. This Ewing st spur came off the one running parallel with the mains. Way back in history this parallel spur ran almost as far west as the river where it served Burlington Park. This park was owned by the Q and operated by a contractor. Like many railroads the Q ran specials to the park. These specials not only came from Chicago but from many points west. If in doubt walk into the Galesburg railroad museum and find the sign highlighting a special going to Burlington Park and showing stops along the line with arrival at Naperville. Leo Phillipp
Scott - That sounds about right (Meyer) but further back in time I believe it was Naperville Ready Mix. A quick Google Maps search shows it now as Ozinga Concrete, Materials and Logistics.
I grew up in Naperville until the family moved to the Twin Cities due to the BN merger (Dad worked for the Q)
I had cousins that lived on the west side and remember getting there from Ogden Ave via Mill St. and seeing those red trucks parked where Naper Auto Works is located.
In the deep recesses of my memory I can remember a spur leaving the Q main in the area of the Concrete company and heading down, I believe, Ewing St. to a quarry which is now the public swimming pool. It serviced a bulk oil storage plant at the corner of Ewing
and Jackson.
Again these are DEEP memories and I do not ever remember seeing any activity on the spur though I do have recollection of a tank car at the oil storage facility.
Maybe Leo might have a recollection of this spur.
I also remember that sometime, early/mid 60's that bulk oil plant going up in a spectacular blaze. Perhaps a call to the Naperville Historical Society or the Naperville Sun newspaper can supply further information.
Look forward to seeing you and Nancy @ the Spring Meet!!!
