Thread-topic: [CBQ] CB&Q 5635
Scott - That sounds about right (Meyer) but further back in time I believe it was Naperville Ready Mix. A quick Google Maps search shows it now as Ozinga Concrete, Materials and Logistics.

I grew up in Naperville until the family moved to the Twin Cities due to the BN merger (Dad worked for the Q)

I had cousins that lived on the west side and remember getting there from Ogden Ave via Mill St. and seeing those red trucks parked where Naper Auto Works is located.

In the deep recesses of my memory I can remember a spur leaving the Q main in the area of the Concrete company and heading down, I believe, Ewing St. to a quarry which is now the public swimming pool. It serviced a bulk oil storage plant at the corner of Ewing and Jackson.

Again these are DEEP memories and I do not ever remember seeing any activity on the spur though I do have recollection of a tank car at the oil storage facility.

Maybe Leo might have a recollection of this spur.

I also remember that sometime, early/mid 60's that bulk oil plant going up in a spectacular blaze. Perhaps a call to the Naperville Historical Society or the Naperville Sun newspaper can supply further information.

Look forward to seeing you and Nancy @ the Spring Meet!!!

Leo - if I remember correctly, the concrete plant I’m thinking of was Meyer or something like that. They had red trucks.

My comment stating "never did anything by rail" is for next door asphalt plant.

84 Lumber still has rail service. At times when driving by on North Aurora Rd I can see a center beam car in some state between full and empty.
