Charlie - As the F units aged, many had the clamshell doors removed on their enclosed pilot exposing the coupler such as F7 163A shown in the unidentified attached image. Best Regards - Louis

The coupler being behind the clamshell doors also was supposed to keep anything hit from becoming entangled in it. All Q F units had the enclosed pilots except the FTs and F2 units which had the open style (and three or four digit small side mounted numberboards).
