Sometime in the late 60s I was driving across Farnsworth Ave in Aurora and
found a Q hopper load of coal sitting just east of the xing on the Industrial
lead. It had smoke coming out of it while an Aurora fire dept crew pumped
water over the load.

So the question popped into my head about how often this occurred back in the
day of steam power ? Was what I saw a very rare occurrence or did fires get
going in coal, loads on a semi regular basis ?

Leo
