Bill - You're correct. All the Class M-4 2-10-4's, Class O-5 4-8-4's and S-4 4-6-4's were equipped with the same style cast iron five note step-top "Banshee" whistle. I've attached an image of one. Maury Klebolt's whistle you mention was a single note "steam boat" style whistle removed from a scrapped IC passenger locomotive.  I vaguely recall that the whistle was bronze.  I've attached another image showing 5632 equipped with that same IC whistle pictured at Aurora, IL, in June 1960. You are right. It is a great recording except the whistle on 5632 that day was not a Q whistle. That was an Illini Railroad Club trip and it’s president, the late Maury Klebolt, had a whistle from another railroad installed on the ’32. I had heard that it was a from the IC, a favorite of his, but I don’t know for sure. The album notes say it is from a scrapped M4A 2-10-4, but it is my impression that the S4s, O5s, and M4s all had the same whistle.
